Editor's Note
Hello Glebe! This week’s Rag has gone a little wild: a cockatoo who’s swapped Glebe for Petersham, a currawong with her own fan club and a mystery pack trotting down Darling St. I’m blaming the Aussie Bird Count.
With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, I’m keen to put together a trick-or-treat list for next week. If your street is going all out, the details are below :)

This Week in Glebe
Glebe Art Show wraps up Sunday
Last week I promised to bring a bit of colour back from the Glebe Art Show. Instead, one of my favourite pieces turned out to be black and white! I was so impressed (and inspired) by the local talent, and choosing one for the Community Choice Award wasn’t easy. Entry is free and the show runs until Sunday, so there’s still time to pick your own favourite and cast a vote.
Twenty minutes, one park, every bird
Lexy from Glebe Locals reckons we’re being under-counted on the Aussie Bird Count, and she’s not having it. The count runs until Sunday: twenty minutes in Jubilee Park, along Blackwattle Bay or just in your backyard, logged through the free app at aussiebirdcount.org.au. Lexy’s in, and so is Fluffs the Currawong, a regular at her place. Let’s put Glebe on the map.
Georgie isn't coming back
While we're on birds, if you've been wondering where the Friend in Hand's cockatoo went, after well over a decade he's moved suburbs for good. A quick call this week with Milo at the Friend confirmed that when the Cowper St pub closed for renovations, Georgie packed up and moved to the White Cockatoo in Petersham. It was meant to be a short stay, but he flourished in his new home and liked it so much that, on the vet's advice, he decided to stay put. A happy retirement, even if it's one less cockatoo for our bird count. (Source: Milo, Friend in Hand)
Glebe's Mystery Pack
Two dogs that look more outback than inner west were spotted trotting down Darling St on Tuesday. It’s the second sighting in a fortnight: someone else counted three on Glebe St near Mitchell St. Nobody seems sure where they’re from, or whether they’re dingoes or just very convincing cross-breeds. If you see them, give them space and let City of Sydney rangers know, so they get home before they meet the traffic on Glebe Point Rd. If they’re yours, they’ve found the gap in the fence! Sappho's window is giving Goosebumps
Sappho Books on Glebe Point Rd has decked out its window with rows of R.L. Stine Goosebumps books, a skeleton and a prop hand poking through the display. It stopped me in my tracks, took me straight back to being eight and being told I was too young for them. Hmph! But a fun reminder that Halloween is around the corner. It also made me realise I haven’t seen many decorations around Glebe. Know of a Halloween event or a well-decorated house in the neighbourhood? Hit reply and I’ll share it next week.
